Belizaire the Cajun

Celebrating 25 years, Belizaire the Cajun is the humble beginnings of Hollywood South. With the support of a couple of Hollywood heavyweights, Belizaire was filmed solely in Lafayette, Louisiana using only local cast and crew members. With the exception of Hollywood movies filmed on location in Louisiana, this was perhaps the first one that originated in Louisiana utilizing local talent as opposed to bringing in a full production company from L.A. or New York to tell a story about Louisiana.

Women’s Media Center

WMC Website says: “Simply put, there is a crisis of representation in the media. We live in a racially and ethnically diverse nation which is 51% female, but the news media itself remains staggeringly limited to a single demographic. While women hold less than 3% of decision-making “clout” positions in media, they also earned only 25% of all new media jobs created from 1990 -2005, despite constituting 65% of all undergraduate and graduate journalism and mass communications students.”

I add, only 15% of all stunt work in film is performed by women. Less than 1% of all working Stunt Coordinators in the film business are women. These are shameful statistics that need to be changed.

Legally Blondes

I totally forgot that I did this movie until recently. But, here I am doubling the delightful young actress, Brittany Curren. In this scene, she plays the spoiled rich kid trying to show up her new frenemies on her trampolines. I’m performing Brittany’s somersaults and stunts. It’s an adorably funny scene.

Granny DoJo

Recently I worked on “Chasing the Hawk” (working title) as a 60-year old karate master, aged to look the part. The scene took place in a dojo and the stunt guys lovingly called me Granny DoJo. Jamie Kennedy was one of the lead actors in the scene. The other lead actor, who looked like he belonged on the cover of a Romance novel, was someone I didn’t recognize. When asked what movies he had been in, he answered that this was his first movie. I recall thinking, “How’d he manage that? Luck?.”

Regardless, I had a job to do. Granny DoJo was to hit the ground when accidentally pushed by Jamie’s character. The pro that I am, I slammed myself to the ground on cue several times. It was expected of me. Regardless, collecting Hi-5′s from the dreamy Romance novel guy made me blush and wish I wasn’t made up to look so awful.

A few days after wrap, I decided to find out who that guy was. Duh! Turns out that it wasn’t “luck” that helped him win a leading role. The producers were the WWE and McDreamy was a WWE Superstar named The Edge. He worked his way up to Superstardom in the world of professional wrestling.

I appreciate his enthusiastic Congrats a lot more now that I know it came from a wrestling Rock Star.

Swamp Set

With the disaster in the Gulf unfolding, we are shooting Swamp Shark in Louisiana swamps still untouched by the oil spill. Riding through the murky waters on a houseboat, we observed the unique natural beauty and lifestyle of this precious American resource. Our journey’s destination was the film set deep in the swamp surrounded by water and Spanish moss covered Cypress trees.

Our first week of shooting wrapped after five days shooting on and in the water. I only saw two snakes and two alligators. I guess that’s lucky. I won’t lie, I was looking over my shoulder every minute I was assisting actors who had to perform scenes in the water.

Enjoy the breathtaking grandeur that makes me even more proud to be a Louisianian.

Stunts were wrapped last night on Revenge of the Bridesmaids for the ABC Family Channel. A pillow fight and done. The actresses taking hits and throwing punches, Virginia Williams, Brittany Ishibashi and Raven-Symone, were lovely and good sports.

… And, I think this is my shortest blog post yet.

With just a few days to go, I’ve been coordinating the stunts on Revenge of the Bridesmaids, which is not a big action thriller, but it’s a comedy with a few small gags nonetheless. The lead actors are Raven-Symone and Joanna Garcia who are out to get the bride, played by Virginia Williams. It is an ABC Family Channel movie. When I get the air dates, I will post them here.
